From lost to found on the Pacific chest trial.

“Wild” is a very interesting book. Wild is wild, being as though it is a book about adventure, there are lots of moments where i’m on the edge of my chair or bed, wanting to read the next page. They’re many different factors playing into Cheryls life at this time. This is a non-fiction story, about a girl named Cheryl, and her downwards ways after her mothers passing. This is followed by divorce, and of course, drugs.

“Fear, to a great extent, is born of a story we tell ourselves…”

– Cheryl Strayed

This 300-page book explains how this girl, in a matter of a couple of months whole life, gets turned upside down. The story begins with a girl named Cheryl Strayed. A young 22-year-old girl with aspirations. Unfortunately, she loses her only parental figure in her life. Being as though her dad wasn’t with her, she felt like she lost everything once that happened. She had no other family to fall onto, so she did what any sane person would do. She turned to have comfort with strange men and started to distance herself with her husband; which leads to a divorce. She ends up failing collage and not getting her diploma in the end. When this happened, things took a turn for the worst as she tries heroin. She loses everything she has and decides to take on the Pacific Crest Trail. From California starting in the Mojave Desert, Strayed begins her hike to Washington State completely alone.

Different Paths

This book makes her life look like its changing better and better by the day. She is seeing her change as for the better as I flip a page. I very much like seeing people come from nothing, and change their lives themselves. I’d like to see Cheryl step out of her comfort zone with other people and express herself. After having a bunch of accomplishments that didn’t pan out, it would be good to see her complete something as big as this, to see her confidence boost. It will be hard to complete, though. She has faced different things like intense heat, coldness, infection, or die from a predator. These are the type of things that define you as a person. Something where you’re not doing it for anybody, BUT yourself. That’s when you know its very special.

This part of the book really motivated me more than anything. I can put myself in those shoes and really interpret what is really going on in life. Seeing myself as a person as I continue to read this book would be bad. It’s hard trying to read about someone doing something with their life, and at the same time your chasing dreams of your own. But at the same time it gives you strengths, motivation, and dreams to conquer.
